Finance Officer

JOB TYPE: Volunteer position (3-6 hours per week)

LOCATION: Work from home (BYO device) and 1 x monthly virtual meetings (out of business hours)

OVERVIEW:

Hello Initiative (HI) strives to improve social and judicial outcomes for West Australian young people involved in the criminal justice system. We believe there is a better way to manage and support young people in the system than the current model focussed on incarceration, and make our communities safer at the same time. We are a majority volunteer-run not-for-profit organisation dedicated to serving young people and their communities involved in criminal justice.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

As HI continues to grow, we are seeking a passionate and dynamic person to join our team in a new volunteer position that will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of new finance processes and management of day-to-day financial business of the organisation.


MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support to the CFO on initiatives aimed at improving business processes and reporting including but not limited at expense reimbursement, accounts payable/receivable and salary packaging.

  • Provide assistance in fortnightly payroll activities

  • Delivery of monthly bank reconciliation to ensure HI funds are being spent in line with our funding requirements

  • Support grant tracking activities including expense management

  • Provide ad-hoc support to the CFO for other tasks as required.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


Qualifications:

  • Qualifications or ongoing study relevant to finance, accounting, or business management will be viewed positively.


Experience:

  • Experience in finance, banking, accounting, or business management will be viewed positively

  • Experience working in youth justice or other youth work will be viewed positively


Necessary Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • High levels of adaptability to work in a fast moving start up

  • High levels of cultural sensitivity

  • Ability to work autonomously

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent time management skills


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in financial processes such as expense management, reimbursements and bank reconciliation activities.

  • Experience with Google Workspace.
